| Stamps Sends Blizzard To 5-1 Loss | |
|
Swan River - The Blizzard did a great job of containing the top line of Swan Valley on Wednesday night but the Stamps did show why they are so deep in beating the Blizzard to get a split of this week's home-and-home set. Yes the line of Gray-Stevens-Reimer was kept pointless for the 2nd straight game, but it was the 2nd line of Riddell-Marshall-Selinger that did the bulk of the damage accounting for 4 of the 5 goals from the home side. The Stampeders are going to lose a lot of great players after this season, but Ryan Marshall will not be one of them. The 18 year old centre had his team leading 33rd goal of the season and set up 3 others to help propel his team to their 30th victory of the season. Carter Selinger had 2 goals of his own while Paul Bonar and Brad McDonald had the other Stamps markers. Bonar's goal stood as the winner while I thought the real back-breaker was giving up the short handed goal to Marshall which at that point made it 4-1. The lone Blizzard goal came from Jorden Iron on the power play in the 2nd period. Iron has arguably been the hardest working player 2010 and has deserved way points than he has. He has scored in 2 of the 3 games with Swan this month and figures to only get better as the season progresses. It's not like the Blizzard were not in the game, but they just don't have the offensive depth that the Stamps do and the Blizzard really need to be razor sharp defensively and find ways to generate offense to be successful. Despite the loss, the Blizzard still hold down the crossover spot if the playoffs started today. They have to games in hand on the Blues but remember the Blizzard must finish with more points than Winnipeg South. Smalley's 3 Stars 1-Ryan Marshall 1 goals and 3 assists 2-Carter Selinger 2 goals 3-Caden Unger 35 saves to improve to 9-0-0-2 Good luck to TJ Constant, Gui Vallee and Jorden Iron as well as David Aime, Jordon Hebert and Dale Warkentin who are off the Prospects Game and All-Star Game respectively in Winkler this weekend. A busy week starts Monday with the Blizzard playing 5 games in 6 nights beginning in Waywayseecappo against the suddenly hot Wolverines. |
