After posting a 5 game win streak early in the season, the Blizzard are back on their heels as of late, coming up short in a game with Swan Valley Stampeders on Tuesday night and extending their winless streak to 6.

That latest match had the Blizzard travel to Swan Valley for the mid-week contest, The Stampeders who have come up with a couple of big games as of late, jumped out to an early lead, as the Stamp’s player caught a bounce and was able to go down 2 on 1 to sneak one passed Blizzard goalie Boily.  The second Stamps goal, which turned out to be the game winner, came as the Blizzard were down a man.  Shortly after the second Stamps goal, OCN hit the score board as Shane Roulette let go a beautiful shot, cutting the lead by 1 and ending the opening frame.

The second period had the Stampeders score their second power play goal of the contest on a nice passing that caught goaltender Boily.  Defenseman Maverick Rafter showed some huge Blizzard leadership as the Stampeder player invited him to a dance that did not end as the Stamp player hoped, with Rafter ending the tussle with the clear victory.

Third period seen the Stampeders score an even strength marker and despite the Blizzard out shooting the Stampeders in each period, they come up short once again on the score board.

“It is frustrating for the fans when the team is struggling to put up points and to secure some wins.  It is even more frustrating for the players.  The boys are working their tails off but continue to come up short.  We have to get back to practice and start working smarter as a team.  The discipline and work ethic is present and has to continue.” Coach Smith explains.

Other game notes include, defenseman Adam Heinemann returned to the Swan Valley arena for the first time since he was injured early in the season.  Despite the outcome on the score board, Heinemann had an outstanding game leading the team in hits.  Other honorable mentioned were Lantz Hiebert (Crunch of the Game) and veteran Tre Potskin for his control and defensive positioning.

This weekend, the OCN Blizzard host the 3rd place Steinbach Pistons, Friday and Saturday night, with puck drop at 7:00 pm.
