The OCN Blizzard are extremely proud to announce another commitment this week. Leading scorer and captain Logan Harland has committed to the University of Regina Cougars for the 2016-17 season. Harland had an outstanding year leading the OCN Blizzard in scoring 39 goals and 56 assists for 95 points in 60 regular season games.

Harland came to OCN last season after spending parts of 3 seasons in the CHL and immediately stepped into a leadership role with the young Blizzard team. “Coming into last year I was excited to play on a team with such young skilled hockey players, we were a group of guys that gelled right from the start and they accepted me as leader and taught me just as much as I could teach them,” Harland said.

“Playing in OCN was amazing, it was a great atmosphere and right down from the core of the team, coaches, staff and community everyone loves hockey. The culture is great, you learn a lot and meet great people.” Harland leaves OCN as the MJHL MVP runner up and a first team all-star.

His 95 points with the Blizzard are the 11th most for a Blizzard player in a single MJHL season.

He will join the Regina Cougars team and take on the task of balancing hockey and school for the first time. “I’m looking to fill a role in Regina like I did in OCN, as a player that produces and is dependable," Harland said.  “The balance between hockey and school is a challenge I’m looking forward to facing. Committing to things outside of hockey tends to balance everything out and carry over to the ice. It’s going to be a full schedule and a good chance to see if I can handle it.”

Moving to OCN and the Town of The Pas can be challenging place to play, as the northern most MJHL community it can be tough to adjust to the surroundings. It was something Harland handled well and playing for the Blizzard was the challenge that changed Harland’s life. “It keeps you focused on hockey and inspired to play the game that young Canadians dream of playing for the rest of their lives. Living in The Pas was great and my billet Randi Salamanowicz was amazing, it felt like home and was a great place to live and play hockey.” Harland said. “I can’t thank Head Coach Jason Smith and Director of Player Personnel Wayne Yaremko for everything they’ve done for me. They are the reason I’m still playing the game of hockey and love what I do.”

Harland will join the University of Regina Cougars next season and will attend their camp this fall. The OCN Blizzard would like to wish “Harly” the best of luck in the future. The OCN Blizzard begin the 2016-17 season with rookie camp on Aug 31st and will play their first exhibition game against the Flin Flon Bombers on Sept 6th.
