Blizzard Knock Off Selkirk, Win Streak at 3

The OCN Blizzard moved their win streak to three games last night with a 3-2 win over the Selkirk Steelers. With the win the OCN Blizzard leaped over the Portage Terriers for 4th place in the MJHL standings while the Selkirk Steelers failed to gain ground on the league leading Steinbach Pistons.  (Read more...)

It was a low scoring defensive affair as the Selkirk Steelers would open the scoring at 13:56 of the first period. Dallas Starodub got a great pass across the top of the crease and banged it into an open net. Assists to Connor Barly and Colby Dudek.

In the second, OCN would respond as Maverick Rafter would get his 5th of the season at 7:43. Steeler goaltender Hayden Dola mishandled the Kyle Wiltshire shot, Rafter would grab the puck walk across the top of the crease and slide the puck into an open net. Wiltshire with the assist.

The third period would see the teams exchange goals once again as Brady Valiquette would slide a powerplay goal five hole on Dola at 1:22 giving OCN a 2-1 lead, his 9th of the season. Assist to Jordan Valentino his first assist as a Blizzard, in his first game.

Selkirk would respond however, as Nathan Halvorsen ripped a­ shot top corner knotting the game at 2 at 13:38. Assists to Ezra Hall and Nathan Hillis.

George King would put the game away with his team leading 18th of the season banging it in off Dola short side, giving OCN a 3-2 lead at 16:16 of the third, the game winner. Assist to Justin Nachbaur. 

The OCN Blizzard would hold on to that 3-2 lead and move to 25-12-3 on the season, currently riding a 3 game win streak. Selkirk had their 6 game win streak snapped and fall to 27-11-2 on the season.
