The OCN Blizzard, battled back from a 2-0 deficit on Friday night, but were unable to complete the come-back as a late penalty call had them short as they pressured the Neepawa Native giving them a 2-1 win at the Carberry Arena.
The Natives opened the scoring at 13:38 into the first period, a power play goal as the Blizzard’s Potskin was in the box. As the period ended, the Blizzard were not without their chances, hitting a total of 4 posts and cross bars, but they were unable to capitalized on their chances.
A scoreless second period saw the Blizzard once again control a lot of the play, but unable to bury any of their chances. Blizzard goaltender Boily continues to be strong to his form as he made some spectacular saves on the chances the Native were given by the Blizzard.
After a “direct” second period intermission with Coach Smith, the Blizzard hit the ice in the third with more urgency. With a majority of the play in the Native’s zone, Native’s goaltender Piece stood tall as the Blizzard peppered pucks at and towards the net, making contact with a few more posts. Late in the period, a turnover at the blueline cost the Blizzard as the Natives were able to sneak a second by Boily which ended up being the game winner.
As the third period was nearing the end, the Blizzard continued to push and were awarded with a goal from the blue line as rookie Kona Jackson snipes one past the Natives goalie as he received a pass from Muir on the half wall.
The Blizzard continued to push but were given a slashing call as Hiebert battled for the puck – a tough call. With the Blizzard Boily on the bench, the Blizzard continued to push and controlled the game but were unable to get the equalizer.
Next game for the Blizzard is this evening as these two teams battle once again, game time 7:30 pm in Neepawa.
