For the first time since 2018, the Blizzard are joining the dance to the Turnbull Cup. With a back and forth race since returning from winter break, the #MGEUWest division was the tightest it could be with all clubs hoping to keep their dreams alive.

A ten day break from games in early March didn’t make it easy waiting to see where the final points would stand. Fast forward to our last weekend of play and we have clinched a spot, secured 2nd place of the West Division and claimed home-ice advantage for the beginning of playoffs.

To say we are excited is an understatement. Lets pack the GL and bring back its former glory! Ticket information coming soon.

Early in January the Blizzard, MJHL and RBC named this years 2022/2023 RBC Community Ambassador. This award is given to the player who shows interest and enthusiasm in working in the community. The player selected has a donation made to a local school in their name by RBC.

“Community Ambassadors are recognized for making a difference and giving back to their communities in which they play in. Each player has displayed outstanding citizenship and sportsmanship both on and off the ice and a commitment to volunteerism.” – MJHL

The player named as this years RBC Community Ambassador is 20 year old Ryan Monias. Ryan was acknowledged by RBC and given his award during their RBC Game Night on January 17, 2023 at the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre. He has chosen Ecole Opasquia School as the recipient of his donation!

With the MJHL-SJHL Showcase coming in just 4 short days, the MJHL has released news that Ashton Paul has been added to the roster! He will be joining teammate Ethan Farrow in representing the Blizzard on MJHL 18U along with Riley Zimmerman, Sebastian Hamming, Alex Bernauer, and Chase Hamm on their perspective 20U teams.

Paul is sitting in the top 10 for the MJHL leading scorers with 41 GP, 21 G and 25 A for a total of 46 Points.

The Blizzard will be well represented during the event!

As the OCN Blizzard main camp wrapped up on Sunday Sept 4th, the Blizzard took the day to practice and bond as a team before the upcoming exhibition season kicks off.

The Blizzard host their northern rivals the Flin Flon Bombers in game one of the “Battle of the North” on Tuesday September 6th at the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Arena.  To say who will be in the line-up for tomorrow’s matchup has yet to be determined; with the official line-up to be announced before the game.  The team is anxiously waiting to see what new head coach Doug Johnson has up his sleeve for this upcoming season.  Regular season games begin on Friday September 16th as the team travels to their nearest MJHL rival’s the Swan Valley Stampeders.

Blizzard Main Camp- Kicked off on Friday September 2nd at the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre with a group of talent that the team is anticipating to get to work with.  Head Coach Doug Johnson commented that “It was a good day.  Players for the most part did their work in the summer.  It was great to get back on the ice and start putting faces to names and see what we have to work with this year.”  General Manager and longstanding Assistant Coach Greg Hunter states “We are very excited to start the season.  We have a talented group of players at main camp, It’s going to make our choices difficult in the end.”

Blizzard acquire power forward (02) Ryan Monias from the Winkler Flyers is an anticipated addition to the line for the upcoming 2022/2023 season.  Blizzard also receive Flyer’s 1st round pick during the anticipated 2022 MJHL Draft taking place Saturday June 4th.

Blizzard trade 2022-1st round pick and 2022-2nd round pick.  Ryan from Thompson, Mb put up 11G, 8A , 112 PIM’s in 46 GP with the Flyers in the 2021/2022 regular season.

Ryan hails from a proud past with the Blizzard with his father Reynold Monias playing with the team 96/97 and uncle Konrad McKay from 96/97-98/99.

Ryan brings grit and leadership to the team, Blizzard would like to welcome Ryan to the organization and look forward to his performance this upcoming season.

Blizzard have announced the trade of (03) Forward Brett Tataryn of Argyle, MB to the Niverville Nighthawks ahead of the scheduled 2022 MJHL Draft Saturday June 4th.

Tataryn putting up 9 G, 11 A in 54 GP in his 2021/2022 season with the Blizzard.  Trade consisted of a 2022- 3rd Round pick for Niverville for a 2nd & 6th round pick in 2023 & PDF for the Blizzard.

Blizzard would like to thank Brett for his contribution to our team during the 2021/2022 season and would like to wish him all the best in Niverville.
