The Blizzard boasts one of the best teams in the MJHL and is led by Captain, and 2016-17 MJHL MVP, Brady Keeper. The Blizzard have scored 195 goals while allowing just 148, and have the league’s leading goal scorer in George King with 35 goals.
The OCN Blizzard would like to thank OCN Chief and Council, the Blizzard Board of Directors and of course, our amazing fans from Opaskwayak, The Pas, and the entire Nor-Man region for their support of the hockey team, and encourage all to continue to show their support as we look to the future of the Blizzard hockey.
Chief and Council originally announced in December they would be ceasing operations of the club following the 2016-17 season.
However, with immense public support from all communities, and a feasible budget proposal from the OCN Blizzard Board of Directors, Chief and Council passed a motion, by a vote of 5-3, to submit intent to allow the hockey club a future season based out of the GLMC, pending MJHL approval.
“I would like to thank Chief and Council for allowing us to work things out and make things better with the OCN Blizzard hockey club. It is great news to hear the Blizzard are taking steps to be back in the MJHL beyond the 2016-17 season.”
- Blizzard Board Chair Dan Moore
Currently the OCN Blizzard sit 4th in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League standings, with two games to play in the regular season. It’s already one of the best seasons from OCN Blizzard in recent memory as the club has 38 wins in 58 games.
